GPS Roles and Responsibilities
- Promotes U.S. foreign policy objectives within the National Executive Committee and the GPS community. Learn more about the committee
- Leads international consultations and negotiations with other nations on GPS-related issues. Learn more about GPS cooperation
- Chairs the GPS Interagency Working Group (GIWG). Learn more
- Works with the National Coordination Office to plan and coordinate international GPS outreach activities. Learn more about the National Coordination Office
- Supports and participates in the International Committee on GNSS (ICG). Visit the ICG website
- Leads U.S. delegations to the World Radio Conferences of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), where spectrum allocations affecting GPS are negotiated.
- Maintains the Sensitive Technology List and handles export licensing for controlled technologies related to GPS.
- Supports the use of GPS for a broad variety of governmental activities, including delimitation of boundaries, fisheries enforcement, health information tracking, remote sensing, and geographic information systems.
