GPS Roles and Responsibilities

  • Serves as the lead civilian agency within the U.S. government on GPS-related issues.
  • Co-chairs the National Executive Committee for Space-Based Positioning, Navigation, and Timing and its subordinate bodies. Learn more about the committee

  • Operates the Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS) to support aviation safety and efficiency.
