RTCA, a Federal Advisory Committee to the FAA, has released the executive summary of its "Assessment of the LightSquared Ancillary Terrestrial Component Radio Frequency Interference Impact on GNSS L1 Band Airborne Receiver Operation." The study concludes that the current LightSquared terrestrial authorization would be incompatible with the current aviation use of GPS, however modifications could be made to allow the LightSquared system to co-exist with aviation use of GPS.

The letter raises concerns about LightSquared Subsidiary LLC's request to change how it uses its licensed spectrum. If approved, the change could increase radio interference for many U.S. GPS users. The letter cites statements of concern sent to NTIA by the National Coordination Office for Space-Based PNT and multiple agencies on the National Executive Committee.
