Gerhard Beutler

Gerhard Beutler Since 1991, he has been Professor of Astronomy and Director of the Astronomical Institute, University of Bern. He has been a full professor since 1996. His main research areas are fundamental astronomy, celestial mechanics, global geodynamics, satellite-based positioning and navigation. He is the author of a two volume work about celestial mechanics. Beutler has earned two doctorates from the University of Bern.

He served as a Research Associate at University of New Brunswick, Fredericton, Canada during 1983-84. Prior to that, he served as Research Associate at Astronomical Institute of the University of Bern; Development of Bernese GPS-Software System.

Beutler has served on many international committees and boards. He was the recipient of the Vening-Meinesz medal of European Geophysical Union and an Honorable Degree of Technical University of Munich in 2006.
